WHAT IS THE

TARZANA NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL?

THIS IS YOUR VOICE IN THE FUTURE OF YOUR COMMUNITY

"Why doesn't somebody do something about that?" How often have you heard (or asked) that question -- particularly about an issue in Tarzana?

Well, now you and your neighbors have that opportunity. The Tarzana Neighborhood Council is certified by the City Charter to represent the community as a recognized part of the greater government of Los Angeles.

THE PURPOSE OF THE TARZANA NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL IS:

  1. To promote public participation in City governance and the decision-making process, to make government more responsive to local needs and requests, and to create more opportunities to build partnerships with government to address local needs and requests.
  2. To monitor and improve the delivery of city services and city government responses to problems and requests from Tarzana stakeholders.
  3. To foster a sense of community for all people within Tarzana and provide a platform to express ideas and opinions about their neighborhoods and their government.
  4. To be an advocate for Tarzana to government and private agencies.
  5. To be a forum for discussion and review of community issues and projects.
  6. To serve as an advisory board to City government.
  7. To take any actions that are permitted by law.

GETTING INVOLVED: (TNC)

Neighborhood Councils are open to all stakeholders within the Neighborhood Council’s boundaries. If you live, work, or own real property within Tarzana, or declare a stake in the neighborhood as a community interest stakeholder, defined as a person who affirms a substantial and ongoing participation within the Neighborhood Council’s boundaries then you are a stakeholder in Tarzana. The Tarzana Neighborhood Council boundaries are Victory to Mulholland and Lindley to Corbin. We hold monthly Board of Directors and various committee meetings which you are invited to attend to learn about and participate in your community.

WHO GOVERNS?

Stakeholders run their own Neighborhood Council in accordance with bylaws they have established and laws established by the city. They elect members of their board of Governors, who serve two year terms. The Board conducts the meeting, votes of official actions, maintains contact with City officials, and is responsible for the financial transactions of the Council.

The public may attend all Council and committee meetings, at which input from stakeholders is encouraged.
